DR. LUPDAG RESIGNS
...
Seven months ago, on December 1, 2003 to be exact, Dr. Anselmo Lupdag, Ph.D., who was serving as Vice-President for Administration at the Central Luzon State University in Munoz, Nueva Ecija, was appointed by the Commission on Theological Education (C.T.E.) as Officer-in-Charge of Union Theological Seminary. It must be remembered that Dr. Mariano C. Apilado, VPTE/President of UTS for the last thirteen (13) years had gone on "Sabbatical Leave" to write his book, effective December 2003. In June Dr. Lupdag resigned and this was accepted by the Commission on Theological Education effective July 1, 2004. No less than Dr. Lupdag made the announcement of his resignation during the first UTS academic community convocation and worship service in July at the Salakot Chapel.
Furthermore, in a special meeting of the Commission on Theological Education held last June 24, 2004, the C.T.E. designated Dr. Oscar S. Suarez, incumbent president of the Philippine Christian Center of Learning (PCCL) to serve "concurrently OIC of UTS effective July 1, 2004 until a permanent OIC has been appointed." In addition to this, as per memorandum from the office of the President of PCU to the UTS community. . .

"The CTE also appointed Dr. Homer Wesley O. Refuerzo as Administrative Assistant
who will carry on the day to day administrative tasks of UTS in close
coordination with the OIC. These tasks include the functions of the Academic
Dean and such other functions designated to him by the OIC."

This was officially announced by no less than Dr. Oscar S. Suarez during the UTS Faculty regular meeting on July 12, 2004. For the UTS studentry a copy of the memorandum is posted on the Bulletin Board.

Straight from the Heart . . .
By Rev. Anacleto G. Guerrero
UTSAA Coordinator/Editor
...
In his book, "Listening for God," Ben Campbell Johnson said, "A forgiven heart left empty becomes the target for both old and new sins. Once forgiven we must reorient our lives to the divine plan. As part of our turning around we arise and walk in the power of Christ."
...
This writer believes that men and women, endorsed and recommended by church authorities to come to UTS did not enrol with "empty" personalities. They came with their own biases, idio-syncrasies, and levels and/or degrees of "faith in God." At this point in time there are already evidences of concrete personal "gifts" and "weaknesses." No two students exhibit the same interests and ways of life. However, as Johnson indicated, lives must be reoriented to "the divine plan." Most students, if not all, have the desire to have a ministry where they could express their acquired learning and share their basic faith and theological exposures to all people. It will not be long from this day that they will leave the seminary grounds to either the high and low places of service or even to the dregs of society who are believed to be marginalized and are hungering for justice and acceptance. There will always be people to be used by God to meet the needs and challenges of humanity. We hope and pray that at this early students can discern the ministry they will undertake.
...
The decision "to serve the Lord as ministers" is a rarity. Just look at statistics and immediately you see the very low percentage of "takers" or those who respond to the call. And the call is varied, not to mention the complexity of the demands. Surely there is always a reason to jump into the pond of "church service." Have we heard the phrase, "jumping board" (others call it "jumping pad)? The theological journey in the seminary becomes a means to an end. And what is that end? The students and anyone of us know, but God knows it best. One day, when the smoke clears, that is, when these preparations in the seminary are over, you can clearly see where graduates are placed. Their future addresses or office locations will spell the truth. We earnestly pray to the Lord that everything will be for the glory and honor of the Almighty God. For those who are in the field you can monitor the seminary graduates where they are now, and what they are doing to their respective ministries. We are enjoined to "arise and walk in the power of Christ." Shalom!

UTS STUDENT COUNCIL
...
Unofficial results of the recently held UTS Student Council elections on Wednesday, July 28 were known by the academic community after the canvassing of ballots, but due to an "appeal" from one of the parties official proclamation could not be made. After the Thursday worship service at the Salakot, the academic dean who is concurrently the adviser and the chair of the UTS COMELEC stopped the proclamation and called for an en banc conference of the UTS COMELEC on July 29 to discuss the appeal and the issue. His co-chair is Nicodemus Tuban representing the students was not able to announce the official results of the election. It is one for the records as far as the presidency is concerned. Joel Bengbeng of the TUGON party and Jonathan P. Marcos of the UNLAD party got seventy-nine (79) votes each. It was gathered that the last ballot to be opened was declared "invalid" because of a very important provision of the SC Constitution. It could have made the difference and a winner inevitable.
